Dark, humid, avoid
Location is good but doesn't compensate for the bad experience.
Dark humid smelling Asked to pay in advance upon arrival. We didn't stay for the second night even though we paid for it. And we were not the only ones.

What was the highlight of Hotel Makondo Cartagena
Horrible experience, quality of hotel is very low.
We booked for 2 nights. When we checked in, hotel staff said we will have to change room the next day. It wasn't ideal but we allowed it. The room we were in had no window, air conditioning was not cold at all, no ventilation, horrible smell, and the mattresses on the bunk beds were so soft that after lying on it, it doesn't return to original shape. We found out that there was a pumbing problem later in our toilet and told the staff, but we put up with it for the night as we thought we will be changing rooms the next nights. However, the next day they told us we won't be changing rooms anymore, and we weren't happy at all about that. We threatened to leave and the hotel owner offered to pay for our dinner if we stay. We agreed, and the owner took us to the worst restaurant in the whole city. It was a terrible experience overall.

Location was the best.
Location was the best. The hotel is located down in the old city, right next to the Santa Clara , the premier hotel in Cartagena. The staff was very nice and dealt well with our broken Spanish
Our toilet refilled very slowly - probably a water pressure issue, but one we didn't notice with the sink or shower.

What was the highlight of Hotel Makondo Cartagena
Overpriced, but comfortable
The staff were very nice, always smiling, and responsive. There was no English spoken. The AC was super strong.
I reaerved a room with a balcony- there was no balcony. They did offer to change the room, but it's annoying to have to repack and move after a night. The wifi on the 3rd floor was non-existent. The rooftop was closed and looked like it hadnt been open for some time. This property is overpriced for what you get.
